Kirkland City Council will make zoning changes in 2026.
Who do you trust to make them?
MEET THE SANITY SLATE
Our government is on track to significantly increase building heights, density, and traffic within Kirkland’s residential neighborhoods.
The Sanity Slate are four local Democrats who want to see growth radiating from Kirkland’s thriving City Centers (not our quiet neighborhoods).
Jon Pascal
Catie Malik
Ken Oberman
Ken MacKenzie
Jon Pascal, Position 7
Jon is a dedicated and experienced City Council Member. He is a transportation expert and a small business owner with years of experience volunteering for Kirkland, including on the Planning Commission, the Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods, and the Kirkland National Little League. Jon is a consistent supporter of Kirkland’s neighborhoods. He was one of only two council members who listened to residents and voted against Kirkland’s poorly conceived and poorly received Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan strongly encourages increasing multi-story density in our residential neighborhoods. Jon will continue to ask the hard questions, gather input from people across Kirkland, and make decisions based on facts, not ideology.
Catie Malik, Position 3
Catie has lived in Kirkland for over 20 years. In her professional life, she manages complex systems and consistently squeezes the most out of every dollar spent. Catie is very active in the community. She attends and speaks at City and neighborhood meetings. Recently, she completed the Kirkland Initiative, a multi-week training program organized by City Hall, focused on Kirkland’s operations. She also volunteers locally (currently as the President of the Lake Washington High School PTSA) and abroad. She deeply cares about Kirkland’s neighborhoods and vocally fought to bring sanity to the Comprehensive Plan.
Ken MacKenzie, Position 5
Ken M. has spent over a decade working quietly but powerfully to make Kirkland better — not in the spotlight, but where it counts. As a neighborhood advocate, nonprofit founder, school volunteer, and City advisory group member, Ken has helped shape policy, organize community efforts, and amplify the voices of residents. Ken has spent years learning how the city operates. He has repeatedly asked thoughtful questions of our City officials and held them accountable. Ken was a strong voice against Kirkland’s density-at-all-costs Comprehensive Plan.
Ken Oberman, Position 1
Ken O. recently retired as a Fortune 500 executive who managed $5B annually. His proven leadership and fiscal acumen are exactly what we need to tackle the complex challenges facing our growing city. Ken lives in downtown Kirkland, and he is deeply engaged in local issues. He completed the 8-week Kirkland Initiative program, and he regularly connects with residents and business owners to understand the questions facing our neighborhoods and city centers. Ken is an adamant supporter of Kirkland’s public safety and will fight for strengthening Kirkland’s infrastructure.
